Thailand is not the only country in Southeast Asia, with beautiful beaches.Malaysia has dozens of small islands, in both east and west coasts that rival the beauty of southern Thailand. In addition, the beaches of Malaysia have the advantage of being relatively unknown (eg cheaper, less crowded, more virgin).
An important fact to consider when planning a trip to any beach in Malaysia is the monsoon season - not to visit the east coast of Malaysia between November and March, unless you like rain. Rain. This is a warning, here are my first choice for an island adventure beach in Malaysia. The best beaches on the East Coast: Peninsular MalaysiaIn East Malaysia, the coast is the first place to sunbathe for those living in Kuala Lumpur (KL) - Cheap and easy to reach by air in one of the airlines in the country, except that for a long weekend. The water is clear, the beaches are powder soft, blinding white. My favorites on the East Coast are:
Redang. The most expensive islands in the East Coast, Redang is a true paradise. Very few Malaysians actually live on the island, so you pretty much have all the place for you. Snorkeling is available off any beach, and if you're lucky you might even see the sea turtles. Redang is well known as a turtle sanctuary, usually lay their eggs on Turtle Beach in the north of the island. Berjaya Air, it is very easy to reach Redang from KL Subang airport (a 45 minute flight, and you're on the beach within five minutes after we arrived).
Perhentian Islands. A selection of small islands north of Redang, the Perhentians are very popular with budget travelers. The beaches are completely unspoilt, with a wide variety of beach huts on the right bank, for the right price. A favorite for diving and snorkeling, Perhentians are a good place to get your diving certificate.
The island of Tioman. Part of the Malaysian islands of protected marine park, Tioman is a haven for snorkeling and diving. Abundant coral reefs on the north coast of the island are home to a variety of colorful tropical fish for a short distance from shore. Tioman is very close to Singapore, Malaysia to the south-east coast and see lots of tourists from Singapore and Malaysia for several years. You will find larger, more budget-friendly hotels all around this popular island. Berjaya Air offers fast and easy directly to Tioman or take the bus to the coast, then a ferry to the island.
